| automatic locking pliers.
I needed a pair of Vise Grips, but I think these are better. Their main advantage is that you don't have to adjust the jaw size before you lock them. They somehow self adjust and lock down all in one motion when you grab whatever it is your grabbing. The grip strength when locked is adjustable, but you set that ahead of time then it stays the same for whatever you grab. They're a little weird at first, since you squeeze the handles up near the jaws, where the red is. They won't even close at first if you try and squeeze further back like with a regular pair of pliers. So there's a short learning curve, but after that, they are a very cool tool. They can also be used in a non-locking mode as regular pliers. Your grip strength is multiplied four times by the cam mechanism. I turned every nut, bolt AND SCREW I grabbed under my hood for practice in seconds with these suckers, without any rounding or adjusting in between. They are much faster to use than a traditional pair of Vise Grips. Makes them a great, "if I only had one tool" tool to consider carrying in the Z. That's what I'm doing - keeping them back in the wheel well. Make sure you get the deluxe "switch" model, as the standard model does not lock, but they look the same in the package at first glance, and they were kinda mixed in together at the display. I got mine $5 off, for under $20. Very versatile, smart tool. Just the thing you need for removing stripped fuel injector rail screws :c) And of course, it's a Craftsman, so lifetime warranty.
